How Sync Works in Shared Lists
Learn what “Sync watch status & TV schedules” does (and what it doesn’t).

Shared lists always share the list’s items. Syncing is an optional, separate feature that can also synchronize watch progress and TV scheduling across collaborators.
When someone adds or removes a title in a shared list, the list contents are updated for everyone who has access to that list.
Permissions still apply:
- Collaborators can edit list items.
- Viewers are read-only.
Read: Manage Collaborator Permissions.
The list owner can enable:
Sync watch status & TV schedules with collaborators
When enabled, WatchThis syncs progress for titles that are in that specific list, including:
- Overall watch status (Planning/Watching/Completed, etc.)
- Episode watched/unwatched progress for TV
- Weekly schedule selections for TV
Sync applies only to titles that are included in the shared list with syncing enabled.
- If a title isn’t in the list, syncing won’t happen for that title.
- If you remove a title from the list, future progress changes won’t sync via that list.
- Sync is designed for “watch together” lists where everyone wants the same progress.
- Updates are not instant messages; collaborators may need to refresh or revisit a page to see changes reflected in their UI.
