Understand List Recommendations
Learn how WatchThis suggests titles based on what’s already in your list.

On some list pages, you’ll see a Recommended section. These suggestions are based on the content already in that list.
WatchThis looks at patterns in the list, such as:
- Common genres
- Common keywords and themes
- Frequently appearing cast (especially for movies)
It then finds candidate titles and ranks them by similarity plus general quality signals (for example: rating, popularity, and recency).
When possible, WatchThis shows a small set of suggestions (enough to explore without overwhelming the page).
Recommendations refresh when:
- You add or remove items from the list, or
- It’s been a while since the last refresh
This helps keep suggestions relevant without changing them constantly.
Common reasons:
- The list is empty (there’s nothing to base recommendations on).
- The list doesn’t have enough signal yet (for example, a brand new list with one item).
- The list is archived (recommendations are hidden).
- Add a few items that clearly match what you want (for example, 5–10 titles).
- Keep lists focused (a Movies Only or TV Shows Only list often yields clearer suggestions).
